MEET YOUR THERAPIST

IMG_3722.jpg

Hi, I'm Brittany!

Whether it's your first time in therapy or you've been to therapy before, it takes courage to open up! There is no right (or wrong) way to open up or show up in therapy. It's completely normal to feel a plethora of emotions about this process. I see you and I've experienced this myself in the client seat in therapy. I prioritize creating a safe and welcoming space where you wholeheartedly feel secure and unthreatened. I will always meet you with compassion, curiosity and forgiveness, challenging you to explore deeper with me as you feel more secure.

I am trained in emotionally focused therapy, which guides all my therapeutic work (You can read more about it here). My practice is also influenced by my neuroscience background, which I often use to help you to understand your emotions, thoughts and behaviours. Our work will go far beyond just talking about practical ways to combat depression or anxiety. Together, we will gain insight into why you are the way you are. This can include why you shut down in relationships, the messages underlying your reactive anger or anxiety, or why you never feel genuinely loved, understood or happy. We will explore your deepest fears and emotions that shaped the way you moved through and experienced the world.

A little about me: I am very passionate about the neuroscience and psychology of mental health. Besides my own private practice, I am a mental health researcher and an advocate for better mental health practices. My other passions include painting and cooking - creation and appreciation.

Master of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology of Mental Health

I am currently enrolled in this program and wanted to pursue higher education in this field. The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College is ranked 2nd in the world for psychology and psychiatry (US News, Best Global Universities) and is home to one of the world’s largest centres for neuroscience research.

Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology

During my Master's degree, I completed specific courses on theories of personality, assessments, interventions, ethics and trauma. This Master's program allowed me to register with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, which regulates the act of psychotherapy and psychotherapists in Ontario.

Honours Bachelor of Science

In my undergraduate, I majored in neuroscience and psychology and minored in biology.

Throughout my time at the University of Toronto, I worked as a student researcher in the field of cognitive neuroscience and mental health. I was a strong student advocate for the improvement of campus mental health services.
